Padding Inset (experimental)

Padding Inset is another version of my inset tool (Safe Inset). It use a different algorithm so the result is completely different too.

It has following chacteristics:

• Inset will have equal distance everywhere, like HTML CSS padding.
• The Inset area may be merged into empty and disappear. It is the biggest dfference comparing to Safe Inset.

Both Safe Inset and Padding Inset are useful for different use case and modeling task. Therefore I decided to make it as a separated tool.

It has option to use "flat style" inset for concave corners.

Usage

Switch to Edit mode, Face mode

Select a face, then right click in the 3D viewport,

Select Safe Inset at the bottom of the blender's context-menu.

Options :

Inset Size : the size of inset

Alignment : It is the alignment-rotation parameter of the ray-casting testing used by the algorithm. Sometimes the tool may have incorrect Inset result and missing face, you may tweak this Alignment and it may have correct result.

Flat Concave : Use a flat rounded concave instead of keeping equal distance for concave corners.

Connected : Whether connect the inset face with the surrounding edges.

Padding Inset is a free addon. Hope that it is useful for you. : )
