(Blender 3.0) Geometry Nodes demo
Here are some demo files for Blender 3.0.0 Geometry Nodes, demonstrating different common techniques :
Ray Casting to another object
Scatter objects around an object at distance
The new concept of "Field" (introduced in Geometry Nodes since Blender 3.0.0) is a bit difficult for beginners, but it is easy once you tried it!
If you don't need the blender file, you can just setup by the following images:
Ray Casting
In the above scene, the small cube is using Ray Casting to the big cube.
You can try to rotate the small cube, the hit location (small balls) will be changed in real time.
You can also try to move the big cube, the hit surface will be changed too.
The direction of Ray is pointing to (0, -1, 0)
Please note : The big cube is scaled and moved in object mode (without applying transform). It is very common. Therefore, I am using "Relative" setting in the Object Info node. If you don't set Relative, it will use its original (without scale) mesh data.
Scattering objects around an object
The above demo show that we can create many instances around an object, with correct facing direction, and with distance. You can make instance of any existing models instead of simple cube or tube. (using Object Info node)
There are thin tubes facing the center sphere. They are just created for demo purpose (showing the facing direction). You may also change it to fire / magic effect, it looks like the small cubes attacking the sphere.
